Gina Carano kicks ass and takes names in Haywire!

She's hot and badass! Check out the following clip which contains the first five minutes or so of Steven Soderbergh's new film Haywire (2011) starring mixed martial arts fighter Gina Carano. This should draw in every heterosexual male in the universe to see the movie. It may sound sexist, but it is true. As a warning you will need to insert your birthday to prove you are over eighteen years of age to watch the clip (psst, just change the birth year back eighteen years).

Start Planning Ahead for Free Comic Book Day 2012

Free Comic Book Day 2012

Right from the start I need to admit that I am not a hardcore comic book fan. Those out there who are dedicated fans of the medium are allowed to belittle me to their heart’s content, but it would be pointless to waste your energy on me. For those of you who are reading this article right now might not even care about comic books. No matter where you stand in the range of love or hating comic books I would like to share with you the annual tradition known as Free Comic Book Day which began around ten years ago as a way to pull in new readers who may not have given the entertainment form a second thought, or even a first glance at all. The annual event is scheduled every year on the first Saturday of May, which in 2012 will land on May 5th (a.k.a Cinco de Mayo). Here is a promotional video to highlight the event and what it means to the participants.

For those of you who have read the articles from Matte Havoc over the last summer may know of my interest in the comic book world. It was the first full weekend that I have ever attended the San Diego Comic-Con and it was an intriguing experience for me. I would like to recommend everyone to participate in the event next May by visiting their local comic book shop and spend a few minutes or a few hours supporting a local business.

If you ever happen to be in the San Diego area and would like to check out the local comic book scene, then I would recommend stopping by my favorite store: Southern California Comics. Check out the map that has been embedded below for directions on how to get to the store. They have a warehouse jam packed with wall to wall comics, including an entire discounted comics room where you can stack up on common issues for a dollar each (or twelve issues for ten bucks).

Screening Schedule: "The Dark Knight Rises" IMAX Prologue

For those of you out there who are like me when it comes to enjoying Batman stories and Christopher Nolan movies there is an opportunity knocking on our front door for the holiday season. Mark your calendars to reserve some time on December 16, 2011 to go and watch Mission: Impossible, Ghost Protocol on an IMAX screen, which will serve as a vehicle to present a six minute (estimated) prologue from the upcoming Batman movie titled The Dark Knight Rises. The new movie will not be released in its entirety until the summer of 2012, but this prologue segment should offer us an idea of how the movie will look on the IMAX screen next year. I watched The Dark Knight on a mini-IMAX screen (read more about what I am talking about by clicking here) during its initial release in 2009. List below is a list of movie theaters through North America that will be tagging the prologue on to the front of the Mission: Impossible IMAX movie. If there is a location near you, then it might be worth a trip to see the teaser video. This is a limited release, so you might have to travel quite a ways if you do not live in a metro area that has a theater playing the footage. The closest movie theater from my home base is 71.4 miles away and I am considering the option of saving my gas money by waiting until the entire movie is released next summer.
